Are You Going To Get Your Lip Done Too?

...Because you need it.

That is what I heard as I laid down to get my eyebrows waxed today.

E-M-B-A-R-A-S-S-I-N-G!

When I walked in I fully intended on only getting my eyebrows done. I was so oblivious to my own poor body hair maintenance that I didn't even realize there was a caterpillar growing on my top lip.

Obviously, after she pointed it out I couldn't not get it done because then I would be the gross lady who doesn't mind a little peach fuzz. I may be a mom but I refuse to be that mom, ya know?

So I dropped the extra 5 bucks (I know I shouldn't complain but it's tough times!) and to be honest with you...

I feel like a new woman.

Thank you tactless, nail shop lady!

In all seriousness, I finally feel like I am in a position to get some momentum going and really get the ball rolling towards my next step in life. Tidy eyebrows (among other things!) are symbolic of that.

I am learning how to be a mom and accomplish small goals too, like running errands and  getting stuff done around the house (and taking regular showers!). Those seem like small things but they were impossible for me a month or so ago and they have even been tough in the past few weeks.

I am realizing as things continue to get easier I need to really start working towards the larger goals in my life too. I have finally come up with a copy of my resume I am comfortable sending out so I am going to start seriously looking for a job. I am going to make the time to research graduate schools and start taking the steps necessary to apply for next August.

I am going to make a life for myself, and more importantly Gemma, that is just as amazing as it would have been if I had done everything the "right" way.

This little girl deserves everything the world has to offer and more.

And I am going to go out there and get it for her.

  1. You go, girl! I LOVE the motivation exuding from this post. Glad mommyhood is getting to be more manageable. I guess I need to go get my eyebrows waxed too so I can get that extra boost. Pretty much in the same position as you except that I am near the end of grad school. Just need to wrap up my thesis and defend it. I hope the job search goes well. Things are looking up gradually for the economy. Everything will work out better than you can imagine as long as your remain positive.

Gemma is getting big...those cheeks are getting chunkier. Yum! :P Hehe, Zakiah has that same onesie. I love purple on baby girls. Where did you get that headband?

  2. That was a seriously rude thing to say! I'm sure she could have phrased it in such a way that wasn't so tactlessly blunt. But I'm glad that you feel like a new woman. It's amazing how much time and effort we have to spend on bodily hair growth.

I think it's great that you're starting to focus on the next chapter of your life- it's so important to have something you want to accomplish for yourself, otherwise it's so easy to get bogged down in mommy monotony. Is she fussing less?

  3. I have had an experience IDENTICAL to this one. I don't care what anyone says, I'm blaming pregnancy hormones. Anyway. I get mine done whenever I need to these days. After the first few times, you'll get over the embarrassment of it all. Trust me. These days I just walk in the shop, look around, and holler... "someone rip off my stache!"

I have a post from long ago about how my daughter pointed mine out. Kids and honesty. A truly humbling combination.

Love your gusto. Keep up the good stuff!

  4. My sister got the headband from K Mart I think. It came in one of those inexpensive packs of bows.

I agree that it does require so much time and effort...If only I had a little more of both!

Her fussing is about the same. Today has been TERRIBLE because she had her 2 month vaccines and is out of control.

(I actually started typing this yesterday and stopped due to fussiness!)

And Stephanie, I am going to go looking for that post :)
