23 Days Until Baby

One more doctor's appointment (I had to look that up!) down and only 3 or 4 left to go!

My mom and my youngest sister, A, came along for the appointment. My mom was still holding out hope that I would get the ultrasound I was long ago promised (I didn't) and A was along for the ride because the appointment happened to be at 2, right when she gets out of the babysitters.

A is my half sister and she will be 2 this September. If any of you has ever met a 2 year old you know how much fun they can be and also how not fun they can be sometimes. Her behavior today was actually somewhere in the middle. It would have been fun in normal circumstances but it was completely doctor's office inappropriate.

By the time the doctor had made it to my room, A had hit the pedals that moved the bed up and down about 10 times, completely shredded the paper lining on the bed, and filled the sink with the shredded paper.

She also asked to see my stomach and made a sympathetic face, as she thought my stretch marks were "boo-boos". Thanks for the ego boost sis!

When the doctor came in she also tried to steal her attention. I think it is so interesting to see young children that you are close to interact with people that they do not know as well. You see little quirks in their personality you have never seen before. Hints of shyness or attempts at showing off. She tried giving away the keys and carrying on a conversation for about five minutes before the appointment could start.

Beyond the distraction of my appointment there wasn't much noteworthy about this appointment (except that the baby is healthy which is always noteworthy...am I a nerd for saying that?). Weight is okay, baby is growing well, I don't have GBS .

I asked her how big she thought the baby was and explained to her that I was worried as I was an almost 9 pound baby. She estimated that the baby is currentlyabout 6 pounds but also said that her guess was "extremely inaccurate".

Umm...Thanks?!?!?

Confession:Part of me wants to be some hippy mom-to-be, who wants minimum intervention in pregnancy and during delivery but deep down...

I want the extra ultrasound just to tell me how big my baby is, even though you know she is healthy. I want to be checked every week to know whether or not I am dilated even though it won't really help me predict when I deliver. I want the epidural because hours and hours of agony does not seem worth personal satisfaction to me (I realize that there are other reasons many women choose to avoid epidurals. I am not sold on any of them.).

Maybe the most noteworthy piece of info gleaned from this appointment was that the doctor strongly advised against my beach trip. After looking at the calendar and realizing that I would be returning 5 days before my due date she seemed hesitant to give me the okay but also resigned. As she said, I am going to do what I want to do anyway... I guess it is just a matter of deciding what it is that I want to do. At this point my plan is to wait until my next appointment on Friday and see if I am dilated. If I am at all I won't go but if I am not I will most likely go...

Decisions, Decisions.

66 Days Until Baby

Highlights of my 30 Week Doctor's Appointment
  1. Blood pressure is up, but still good.
  2. I gained 6.5 pounds in 2 weeks (wtf?!?!) bringing my total weight gain somewhere around 18-23 pounds (yikes!).
  3. Baby is already in a head down position.
I saw somewhere today (on a message board maybe?) that time really starts to fly around this point. I think it would make sense for this to be true. With childbirth classes every week, doctors appointments every two weeks, an upcoming baby shower, and the fury of preparation that is sure to follow I think the baby prep part of my life will be pretty full.

I also talked to my doctor about a family vacation scheduled for the week of August 16th. My due date is August 29th. I am torn as to what I should do...As expected the doctor reccomended strongly that I stay here, her primary concern being delivering far from home in a strange hospital with doctors that don't know me and such. Problem is, my whole family is going so if I don't I would be at the house, by myself, at 38 weeks pregnant which seems at least an equally crummy situation. It is a lazy beach trip, so the nature of it would not be an issue. Just traveling and distance. I have 8 weeks or so to contemplate and I shall...

Hmmm...Other than that...

I have kind of been slacking in the life planning department. I haven't done ANYTHING to make steps toward my law/grad school goal. I've planned on planning but haven't really gotten around to it (even though I literally do NOTHING all day, every day.) Maybe it is pregnancy brain or exhaustion or a combination of both, maybe it's laziness, or maybe it is all of those or none of those. Not sure.

Oh! And I got facebook back. Not too far into the pregnancy someone was hacking into all my stuff online so I deleted facebook. I recreated a hidden profile so I can at least stay in better touch with my close friends and I think it is a good thing. I am still a little nervous but I think maybe I am just paranoid.

I still don't think I want random people I went to school with to know I am pregnant.

I wonder if they do?

94&93 Days Until Baby

I'm officially an old lady.

I bought MATERNITY JEANS!!! Ahhh...

I am slightly traumatized by the idea of them, but I must admit that being reunited with denim has kind of made my day. I swear, it has probably been about 6 weeks (when I was at around 20-21 weeks preg) since I have worn jeans at all. I have had a hard time finding jeans that work because I am short, and I am only really big in the stomach (although the thighs have DEFINITELY grown!). I found Capri-ish jeans so they work! (When I cuff them ;) )

So yesterday I bought the jeans and then today I wore them to my glucose test. Yay! Or not. It was kind of boring. I went by myself and read three Ladies Home Journals while waiting the hour that it takes after drinking the drink to be able to have blood drawn. After I had tired of the magazines I went and checked out the hospital gift shop (I still had about 5 minutes). This really sweet older lady who was working there commented on how small I am to be due in August, and as vain as it is, it made my day! We chatted a little and she also commented that it looked like I am carrying a boy. While I would have been just as happy with a boy I hope not! I would feel so unprepared.

The baby (whose secret pet name in my head is nugget, which I don't use out loud because it makes me sound creepy and *gasp* mom-like) has been lazy today, which I hate. In general, she has had lots of lazy days. I am trying to not worry about it too much, as I have already gone to the ER unnecessarily for this TWICE. So embarrassing. And I think I have felt nudges, so I am probably just being dramatic.

I found out like 2 days ago that soft serve puts you at risk for listeria also! I am bummed, and slightly worried (I had soft-serve on Sunday...and like 3 other times recently), but trying to keep it in check. Sometimes I wish I knew less, but I realize the little sacrifices will make for a healthier baby. I am really gonna miss super cheap McDonalds sundaes though!

Maybe this is a good thing though, my diet has been so bad lately! I need to keep up the really healthy weight gain I have had so far.

I guess I will just stick to the fruit that I am eating and pretend!

101 Days Until Baby

So today is my first official post, although I plan to try my best to document my journey through young adulthood and into (unexpected) motherhood. I ordered a new camera battery charger today, so hopefully posts in the future will include pictures! I really hope it comes soon.
I also had a doctor's appointment today. She said that the placenta is anterior (in the front) and that the fluid between the baby and the placenta is low which may explain why I have felt so little movement. I am so glad to have an explanation. I knew I wasn't being crazy when I noticed that I wasn't feeling much.
Other baby business has kind of been at a stand still. I don't want to buy many things until the baby shower (which is almost 2 whole months away!). I am excited to get things ready. I think the shopping and picking stuff out is kind of the fun part of pregnancy.
She still needs a name! I am sort of at a loss so I kind of just don't think about it...

Hmmm...This post is kind of dull. Not at all the tone I wanted to set :) I guess I will check in tomorrow and hopefully be a little more interesting!
